Empire Mine State Park Celebrates 50th Anniversary

Empire Mine State Park celebrates its 50th anniversary this Saturday with a mining family reunion, featuring oral history recordings and opportunities for descendants to share historical family treasures.
Among the numerous activities and events happening this weekend in Nevada County is an observation of the Empire Mine State Park’s 50th Anniversary and Mining Family Reunion on Saturday. State Park Interpreter, Jean Rhyne, says that also means 50 years of knowledge from miner descendants and former staff members. And she hopes many show up for the event. An Oral History recording station will be available…
Descendants are also invited to bring historical ephemera
relating to their ancestor. That could include historical family documents for
park staff to scan and build out the life stories of the mine’s individual workers…-
Former park staff are also invited to lead the “What Used to
Be Here” tours or join a speaker panel. To arrange to lead a tour or suggest a

is from 11am to 2pm on Saturday.
