LINCOLN – Completion of an innovative project to improve fish migration on Auburn Ravine Creek will be celebrated on Feb. 29 at an open house hosted by the Nevada Irrigation District.
The Wednesday afternoon event will take place at 2 p.m. at NID’s Auburn Ravine Fish Passage Project located in the Lincoln Crossing Nature Preserve just west of Highway 65. Access is via Mossdale Court.
Scheduled speakers include NID Division IV Director Jim Bachman, of Lincoln; NID General Manager Ron Nelson, Placer County Supervisor Robert Weygandt, Dry Creek Conservancy Executive Director Greg Bates, Rick Radoff, former president of Granite Bay Flycasters; and Shawn Hammond, project manager for contractor Preston Pipelines. A representative from the state Department of Water Resources is also expected.
Visitors will be able to see and learn about NID’s project to construct a “nature-like fishway” with rock chutes and natural pools to aid fish migration to an additional mile of Auburn Ravine Creek.
The event is open to all interested members of the community.
