Tea Party Patriots co founder Mark Meckler reports that Gun Charges filed against him following an incident in New York City have been dropped. Meckler was arrested at LaGuardia Airport December 15th as he was preparing to check in for a flight out of the city. Meckler says he carries a firearm for his personal safety, having received numerous threats due to his role in the Tea Party Patriots. Meckler says he had the unloaded pistol and ammunition in a TSA approved travel case.
Meckler says the ticketing agent said she would have to call Port Authority Police to inspect. Upon showing the case and the weapon to the officer, Meckler was placed under arrest for violating New Your City’s firearms laws. He was subsequently transferred, in handcuffs to the Queens Central booking facility in New Your City and was charged with felony possession of a firearm with intent to do harm. He spent the day in Queens in jail. Meckler says the criminal case against him has now been dropped. Although originally charged with a violent felony, the case was resolved with a plea to “Disorderly Conduct. ” which is an infraction not even a misdemeanor.
Meckler says requests to have his Glock pistol returned to him were denied. KNCO news has contacted the Queens District attorney’s office and is awaiting a reply on the outcome of the case.
