One-Million-Dollar Cannabis Grant Accepted In Nevada City

Nevada City has secured a $1 million state grant to boost cannabis enforcement, detective training, and community education programs in partnership with the Nevada County Cannabis Alliance.
A one-million-dollar five-year state grant to support mostly cannabis enforcement efforts in Nevada City, but also an increase in education activities, was accepted by the City Council at their recent meeting. Police Chief Dan Foss told the Council that most of the money will fund training for one of the Department’s detectives…
A staff memo says the primary intent of the program focuses on public safety and youth prevention and intervention. And the Nevada County Cannabis Alliance is also considered a sub-grantee who will oversee several education campaigns, working closing with Police, using 250-thousand dollars of the grant money. Councilmember Doug Fleming was pleased to see the partnership…
The staff memo says the information and experience gained through
collaboration with the Alliance are invaluable, while promoting a cohesive, compliant,
and sustainable cannabis community. The funding comes from state voter-approved
Proposition 64, that legalized recreational use of cannabis in 2016. It also includes grants that aim to help
local governments address public health, fire protection, law enforcement, and
local programming impacts, as it relates to adult-use cannabis legalization and
education.
