The Cauldron Crone Brings Welsh Myth, Marionettes and Magic to the Nevada Theatre. Three drops of magic. One mother’s love. Everything at stake. On Thursday, October 22 at 7:30 p.m., acclaimed storyteller and theater artist Dalrymple MacAlpin brings The Cauldron Crone to the historic Nevada Theatre in Nevada City. Described as a musical marionette fairy tale, the production combines music, marionettes, shadow puppetry and theatrical storytelling to create an imaginative journey into the world of Welsh mythology. At the center of the story is Cerridwen, the Cauldron Crone, a powerful and famous witch who has given birth to a child unlike any other. Her son, Fran, is disfigured and considered the ugliest boy in the land. Determined to protect him from a lifetime of ridicule and shame, Cerridwen undertakes a magical quest: she will brew a cauldron containing three precious drops of inspiration. But magic rarely comes according to plan.
