NEVADA CITY, Calif. — The City of Nevada City is seeking community members interested in
wildfire preparedness, public safety, and community resilience to serve on the City Council’s Fire
Safety Advisory Committee (FSAC).
Applications are currently being accepted for all five community member seats on the committee
due to the regular expiration of the current members’ terms. The new appointments will serve threeyear terms from January 1, 2027, through December 31, 2029.
Applicants must reside within the City of Nevada City or its Sphere of Influence. To view City
limits and the sphere of influence check your address at https://www.nevadacountyca.gov/580/MyNeighborhood-Map.
The Fire Safety Advisory Committee supports the City’s ongoing efforts to protect residents,
businesses, visitors, and structures from wildfire. With the passing of Measure C (2024) the FSAC
plays a critical role in shaping the future decisions of wildfire prevention programs. The committee
assists in establishing objectives related to vegetation management and wildfire mitigation,
identifies potential funding opportunities, and promotes public education, awareness, preparedness,
and community involvement.
Nevada City continues to expand its wildfire prevention and preparedness efforts through defensible
space program, hazardous fuels reduction, community education, neighborhood engagement, and
other wildfire resilience initiatives. FSAC provides an opportunity for community members to
contribute their knowledge, experience, and perspectives to these efforts.
Community members with an interest in wildfire preparedness, vegetation and forest management,
public safety, emergency preparedness, or community engagement are encouraged to apply.
Previous committee or wildfire experience is not required.
